Progressive Natures
One of our greatest examples of strong intellectual composure despite overwhelming adversity is the life story of President Abraham Lincoln. He lost his mother at a tender age, his beloved sister, baby brother as well. Seemingly too much to bear already, Lincoln also lost his first love, Ann, to Typhoid fever, lost several races in legislature, and still more dreadful, lost two of his sons as well. There came a calm, reflective acceptance of the way of all things thereafter reflected in the eyes and carriage of this imposing intellectual man, one which had to be admired whether or not it’s devastating sources were understood. Many who struggle through such gut-wrenching tribulations experience similar milestones as well, which will very often clear the darker clouds of heavy disaster by presenting tangible answers difficult to adequately articulate. Some of the most confounding and oppressive losses we experience on the planet, therefore, ultimately present profound freedoms of thought and action. The very people for whom we are most apt to fight and defend and the roles we most heartily compete to attain are certainly the most difficult to lose, and its due to the profound complexity of such loss that certain forms of grief generate highly progressive ideas, as the mind struggles to survive the miring rip curls pulling into awfulness. We have all experienced losses of varying degrees, but the more wrenching the wakes we attend, the more powerful the swimmers ultimately become. Keep moving forward, in thinking, faith, and invention, for this will result in progress, actions benefitting the entire human animal race.
