Nice Beach Cities

I was forced on my own when I was 22 and my dad passed away from lung cancer.  It was a scary time but I was determined to keep my head up and that is how I found the little apartment on South Pacific Street in Oceanside.  Somewhere around that same time, a friend told me that the ocean sounds match the calm omega waves in the brain, and therefore are naturally soothing.  I sat on the Tyson Street Beach many hours and many days and found it to be true.  It's incredible to watch the shimmering moonlight, hearing the steady crash of the ocean waves from your window, and breathing in the aromatic, salty sweet air.  It's the best place I've found to "just be" or alternately to feel uplifted in its grand powers upon the human senses.  You want to care more about your body, like so many others obviously do watching the elegant surfers and nubile sunworshippers.

It's not for everyone, I suppose.  I always considered myself a country girl who'd be happiest on a huge Bonanza-sized ranch someday, but twenty years later, it's still here that I most want to be.  Spending eight years teaching at the Army Navy Academy surely solidified that.  My students and I could always find that extra writing inspiration on an outside class day.  Suddenly tired eyes became alert, as the muses danced all around.  You could get four new adjectives about some great new topic in the minds of each of eighty teenage boys in a day that way, and they would never forget that lesson, but ask for several more like it before the year ended.  Here I am selling beach real estate and feeling refreshed after a seriously chaotic girls' sleepover weekend, and it just dawned on me that I can make everything better right here without spending a dime.  I've got everything planned and not much to pack.  I just need to get everyone to my secret free parking and beach spot.  This is where it's at!

I thank you all, US military past and present, that make our freedoms possible.  I hope you have a safe and fun Memorial Day.
