Food
Eating healthy all of the time is very important. You have to put in good, wholesome foods if you want your body to perform optimally. When given the choice between chips or a piece of fruit, the organic option is going to make the body happy, while the other will make the body slow and eventually sick. It takes time to make food, and it should be a caring act, whether you do it for yourself or for your family. I met a nutritionist named Collette McClellan at a yoga retreat the other day, and what struck me as most wonderful about her was the way she stirred salad in a big wooden bowl with big wooden tongs. The sound and visuals as she spoke drew me deeply fascinated into her ideas. I thought of all of the times my daughter has come in to hug me as I prepared food, lingering to discuss this or that. I wondered if I ever made the same mesmerizing impression. I really need a wooden salad set. It makes a soft bom bom click click sound as the vinaigrette dances around fresh veggies. But I digress. Collette had an amazing quinoa salad that inspired me to make my own yesterday, using my own garden cucumber and organic avocado, carrots, celery, and feta cheese. I'm not sure if it's because I've always loved these types of food, but it was delicious and satisfied me for dinner. I haven't gotten anyone else to try it yet, but I believe someday they will. In the mean time, I will plan meals and include cooked quinoa where possible, cut out gluten, use honey or Stevia instead of Splenda or sugar, and spread awareness of the dramatic shift to processed food consumption which is crippling American bodies. C'mon people. Let's reverse this problem and get cooking and prepping our own food again. All of the diets in the world won't sustain appetites as well as whole foods goodness. In fact, low fat items often supply twice the sugar needed, in order to taste better. Whole milk is more filling and tasty than low or non fat, as are whole grain breads and pastas. Alcohol turns to sugar in your blood, so you should not drink it beyond holidays and big celebrations, but I don't drink alcohol at all anymore with only one kidney a personal dislike of the brew permeating all areas of these United States. Follow the food guide pyramid, and your body will thank you everyday, beginning to crave the good options much more. Trust me; I'm at an age no one can believe when I tell it to them. Two elderly gentlemen's jaws dropped when I told them my age yesterday. That really made me feel grateful and lovely, and wanting to spread word of what I've learned in my many wise years.
